VAT advice
Opticians should not be paying any VAT!
VAT can be a complicated and often confusing issue for many Opticians, resulting in some paying far more VAT than they need to.
The main complication for Opticians is that they provide two different services for their patients and each of these services has a different rate of VAT.
1) The dispensing service; this has a clinical element and therefore Customs and Excise state that Opticians should not pay the full rate of 17.5% VAT on the revenue they make from sales.
2) The sale of products; this is set at 17.5%.
Each Opticians practice is different and the amount of VAT paid is based on a variety of criteria.
Myers La Roche can put you in contact with VAT experts who can ensure that you are paying the correct amount.
